In 2005, Gotti released his next song ‘Full Time’ which was featured on the soundtrack of the 2005 film ‘Hustle & Flow’. From this album, he released his first single ‘Dirty South Soldiers’ which featured Lil John. ![]() ![]() He then managed to get signed by TVT and released his fourth album in 2003 by the name of Life. Some of which include From Da Dope Game 2 Da Rap Game (2000), and Self-Explanatory (2001). Career Beginningīetween the years 2000-2006, Gotti released a large number of albums over the course of his career. He then would put his tape in local small record stores locally by which he became a small town hit due to his amazing talents. He was initially rapping under the name ‘Lil Yo’ and released his first underground album called Youngsta On A Come Up in 1996. He started rapping at the tender age of 14. In effect, it was all this hustling that he was doing that led him to his career in rapping. He told Vogue “being from the hood things like hustling will come your way”. ![]() At a young age, Yo Gotti soon turned to hustle. His story is what is classed as a classic ‘rags to riches’ case as he was raised in the poorest part of the Deep South of Tennessee. His father, aunties, and brother have spent time in prison, and he often went inside different state penitentiaries and federal prisons to visit them when he was a kid. Yo Gotti grew up in a family with many family members serving time in prison. Gotti’s father originated from Zimbabwe and his mother was from South Africa.
